Blood Orange Frosted Sugar Cookies
Blood orange zest sugar cookies topped with naturally pink blood orange icing.

Orange Sugar Cookie
- 1 cup unsalted butter softned
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- zest of 1 large orange
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup almond flour
- 2 cups all purpose flour
Blood Orange Icing
- 1/2 cup fresh squeezed blood orange juice
- 4 cups powdered sugar
Cream together butter, sugars, salt, vanilla, egg and zest
Gradually mix in both flours until mixture comes together in a ball, do not over mix!
Cover dough in plastic wrap and let chill in the fridge for 30 min
Preheat oven to 350
Allow dough to come to room temperature then roll on a floured surface about 1/4" thick
Cut dough into desired shapes and place on a lined baking sheet
Bake for 11 min until the edges are slightly browned
Transfer to cooling rack and let cool completely before icing
Dip the tops of each cookie into the icing and place back on the cooling rack letting the icing layer dry before dipping again (about 3-4 dips or until desired thickness of icing on each cookie)
